Column: Graduate education grows careers and communities in Tennessee

Gov. Bill Lee has proclaimed April 1-5 as Graduate Education Week in Tennessee. Graduate education serves to drive the economy, support innovation and develop the workforce of our great state.

Graduate education has a major impact on research innovation. The Council of Graduate Schools reports that in 2022 Tennessee universities received nearly $994 million dollars in federal research support.

Graduate students and graduate faculty contribute to Tennessee by conducting basic and applied research as well as engaging in scholarly and creative activities that are essential to growing the economy, enhancing arts and culture and supporting the health and well-being of Tennessee citizens.
