Meeting Overview

Held in Chicago on July 11, 2026, the New Deans Institute was is tailored to those who have been in their graduate dean role for two years or less. Our Summer Workshop program, running from July 12-15, 2026, gave attendees the opportunity to engage with colleagues, share insights, and collaborate on approaches to address current challenges. Your involvement is vital to keeping us informed, proactive, and united in supporting the future of higher education.

Meeting Highlights

The 2026 Summer Workshop program was both informative and engaging, featuring a range of timely topics and practical guidance for both new and experienced deans and graduate school staff. Plenary sessions delved into crucial issues facing graduate education today including: new strategies for making the case for graduate education and building partnerships with your provost.

Additionally, the meeting offered sessions on timely topics such as graduate professional development at scale, designing graduate education for tomorrow, AI literacy and strategic leadership. Attendees had the opportunity to network in sessions, at meals and during a networking cruise on the Chicago River.
