President Biden’s Full FY23 Budget Request
On March 28, the White House released President Biden’s full budget request for fiscal year (FY) 2023, which includes $829.2 billion in non-defense discretionary funding and $813.3 billion in defense funding. For the Department of Education, the Biden Administration proposes $88.3 billion, which is an increase of $11.9 million or 15.5 percent above the FY22 enacted funding level of $76.4 billion. The budget requests an increase of $2,175 in the maximum Pell Grant award, thus raising the maximum annual Pell award to $8,670. The FY23 budget proposal also requests increases for the toplines for the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and other federal agencies.
