CGS Appropriations Advocacy for FY 28
Energy Sciences Coalition Requests Funding for DOE Office of Science
On September 21, 2026, CGS joined the Energy Sciences Coalition (ESC) in an appropriations request urging the Administration to request at least $10 billion for the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science in Fiscal Year (FY) 2028. ESC’s request includes $1.6 billion in additional funding above the FY 2026 enacted level to strengthen foundational research, expand research infrastructure, advance national science and technology priorities, and support STEM education and workforce development. The request emphasizes investments in physical sciences and other core scientific disciplines that support emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, semiconductors, and fusion energy. ESC also recommends funding to expand DOE national laboratory infrastructure, research facilities, and scientific user facilities, as well as $100 million for STEM education, traineeships, and workforce development programs.
