Our IR vice provost is seeking metrics for doctoral productivity by discipline. Our state used to say that for a program to be considered productive, it needed to graduate 5 PhDs a year. The state has abandoned that metric but our program review committee (run through IR) would like to know if there are any national metrics (it can be within particular disciplinary groups) that can be used to guide them? Also driving this question is whether there are productivity metrics for programs focused on underrepresented groups (for instance, programs in Black studies, women studies, ethnic studies, social justice, etc). Our provost is interested in having some external metrics for productivity to drive the allocation of resources. Thanks so much.
