We allow our retired faculty to continue to serve on a committee, but not chair it. Their graduate faculty status is active for 5 years. As long as that timeframe has not expired, we will approve them to serve on the committee. Once it’s expired, they would have to be readmitted to graduate faculty status, per the unit’s requirements. If it expires, they would be treated as an external member and would not count as one of the 3 graduate faculty from ECU that we require.
