New! Controlling Costs and Optimizing the Value of Graduate Degrees

In October 2023, CGS convened a task force to address challenges around the cost and value of graduate degrees. This report and associated member toolkit are the result.

Healthy Research Teams and Labs

The vision of the Healthy Research Teams and Labs project is to foster welcoming, equitable, creative, collaborative, and innovative research teams and labs. The project developed useful recommendations and promising practices for graduate deans, department chairs and program directors, advisors, graduate students and others in the academic community, and is designed to be inclusive of every field of study.

Mentoring

This toolkit, compiled in 2024 by CGS Dean-in-Residence Cari Moorhead, is organized by role: mentor, mentee, or leadership. Each section has a variety of resources, from workbooks to coaching services. Because many people both mentor and are mentored, as well as potentially serving in leadership, the sections are widely applicable. The toolkit also includes webinars on culturally-aware mentoring and on mentoring requirements for NSF grants.

Hispanic Serving Institutions: A Critical Pipeline to Graduate School for Latinx Students

This toolkit was developed by JoAnn Canales, CGS’s Dean-In-Residence from 2018 through 2019. While the project identified Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) – defined as accredited, degree-granting public or private non-profit institutions of higher education with at least 25% full-time equivalent undergraduate students who identify as Hispanic – as a possible vanguard to lead the higher education community as they address this disparity, the toolkit is appropriate for all institutions.
