Does anyone have any resources and/or examples of alternatives to the traditional 5 chapter dissertation?

At the University of the District of Columbia for our Urban Leadership and Entrepreneurship doctorate degree, we have a cumulative dissertation in which the students publish two-peer reviewed articles as a requirement of graduation. We do not require a manuscript dissertation for this group.
