Dear All, I am interested in hearing about Graduate student parental accommodations. Does your institution provide support for graduate students in good standing to serve their childbirth, adoption, newborn care, foster care, and acute child health care needs? Sharing any policies or guidelines would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Diane
At Rowan, we do not have any policy covering parental leave of any type. I will be watching this thread for replies from institutions which do this well.
Michigan Tech: We do have a parental leave policy. Details here: https://www.mtu.edu/gradschool/policies-procedures/academic/parental-leave/
Thank you for the information from Michigan Tech, it was very helpful. Where does your office get the funding to support the leave requests? Thanks Again, Diane
Michigan Tech: This used to be handled strictly through funding in the graduate school, but we convinced our folks in finance and budgeting that it ought to be handled through he fringes pool. The funds are drawn from that pool so that externally and internally supported students are covered in the same way.
