  • in reply to: Parental Leave Accommodations #11230

At Rowan, we do not have any policy covering parental leave of any type. I will be watching this thread for replies from institutions which do this well.

in reply to: Undergraduate students taking graduate level courses #11229

At Rowan, we have a program called senior privilege (read more here: https://sites.rowan.edu/student-success/global-learning-and-partnerships/studentresources/senior_privilege.html ).

It enables undergrads to take two courses (6 credits) of graduate courses and to convert those credits into their graduate transcript if they should matriculation to Rowan University Graduate Programs.

in reply to: tracking graduate student progress #10971

We are currently adapting a system powered by Starfish, called Rowan Success Network (RSN). https://sites.rowan.edu/student-success/rsn/

We are designing it to be able to track benchmarks towards the degree, raise flags (for problems or for accomplishments) and also leave relevant notes regarding meetings with the student and outcomes of those meetings.

in reply to: Budget model for graduate school #10970

Rowan University is currently under the same model as WMU (response above). Our entire operational budget and positions are from the university.

in reply to: Dissertation/Thesis grading #10969

We ran across this issue recently. We had been using three different designations across our campus: letter grade; pass/fail; IP (in progress); and S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory). With our registrar, we are developing a plan to make a uniform system based on XP and CP (with CP changing to a letter grade at the end– and XP triggering a performance improvement plan shared with the Graduate Dean’s office). Our early discussion with our advisory council about this indicated that they DID NOT want such a bi-modal set of options (i.e. either doing well, CP, or go straight to XP where the credits do not count). We are now developing further with the potential for a CP with PIP, etc. Once we have something established and posted to our website, then I can send the link.

in reply to: Responding to grad academic misconduct #10967

At Rowan University, we developed a separate academic integrity process for graduate students who have a violation for graduate exam components (meaning the candidacy, comprehensive, final defense or dissertation documents). All other academic integrity violations (i.e. in classroom settings) through the same process as undergraduate students. Our guidelines for this type of violation is found here: https://sites.rowan.edu/sgs/for-current-students/gasivpolicy.html

in reply to: Enrollment Deposit or Requiring Admission #10966

At Rowan University, we do not require enrollment deposits, but we do our projections based on whether or not a deposit has been made.
